All jailbreaking is is modifying software on a device. This only violates Apple's EULA.

That's it. That's all it is. However, applications developed by third party developers can be used to pirate applications. As part of the 2009 DMCA rulemaking, EFF has asked the Copyright Office to recognize an exemption to the DMCA to permit jailbreaking in order to allow iPhone owners to use their phones with applications that are not available from Apple's store (e.g., turn-by-turn directions, using the iPhone camera for video, laptop tethering).

Apple's copyright infringement claim starts with the observation that jailbroken iPhones depend on modified versions of Apple's bootloader and operating system software. True enough -- we said as much in our technical white paper describing the jailbreak process. But the courts have long recognized that copying software while reverse engineering is a fair use when done for purposes of fostering interoperability with independently created software, a body of law that Apple conveniently fails to mention.

This is NOT meant to scare or discourage you, its just a legal disclaimer. I've done over 50 JAILBREAKS-I KNOW what I'm doing (for all you skeptics out there!)

Basic Overview:

BOTTOM LINE: I jailbreak iPod Touches (1G, 2G) for FREE. I have switched to DONATIONWARE If you like the jailbroken product, you can always chip in a few dollars!; iI also jailbreak iPhones BUT CANNOT jAILBREAK THIRD GEN IPOD TOUcHES.

If you go to AJHS or live in my area and want a jailbroken iPod or iPhone and don't have a mac or don't know how to do it, see me in school @ commons "A" in the morning between 7:45 and 8:00 AM. I also head to my locker (2nd row, towards the side stairs) after 8th period. I have homeroom in 153. Or, contact me, and we can set up an exchange.

You will get your ipod back the next day or the day after that if I'm really busy. I AM NOT ACCEPTING OR PERFORMING CARRIER UNLOCKS EITHER-- It's way too risky; but iPod TOUCHES cannot be permanently broken (unlike iPhones) by jailbreaking.

Its not hard to jailbreak an iPod or iPhone, but I've set up automated shell scripts that "do my bidding" and set up certainaspects of your device.
